MEET THE YCS TEAM

WIth a background in Media, Arts, Technology, and Education, Alexander recognises the importance of creating a safe, happy, and engaging environment that supports learning, wellbeing, and confidence. Alexander loves show-casing student and staff success. 

With excellent organisation, time management, and multi-tasking skills, Shella applies her background in Accounting to manage all aspects of School finances. Shella also often steps into the role of cook, driver, and First Aid Nurse. 

Kitty is a well-loved long time member of YCS, with over fourteen years experience teaching in Yakanarra. Kitty has now taught generations of children in Yakanarra, and understandings the need for positivity, flexibility and team-work to make YCS the great place it is!

Beryl leads the way with plannning, teaching, and assessing the Walmajarri Language programme at YCS. Beryl is also currently completing the Aboriginal Languages Teacher Training with the Department of Education, Western Australia. 

Jessie and Mary helped make Yakanarra what it is today by originally settling here over 25 years ago. Both Mary and Jessie are proficient Walmajarri language speakers, writers, and translators, and both have n deep understanding of on Country learning.

Employing local Indigenous community members, the AET's roles are very important at YCS; from preparing lunches, cleaning school facilities, and supporting students in the class with code-switching between Kriol home language and English.

YCS Grounds-Staff help keep the school looking great by regularly performing maintenance duties and keeping the school safe from snakes and cheeky dogs. Many visitors regularly comment how well maintained the school grounds are!

The  YCS Board was formed with representatives from different family groups from Yakanarra. The YCS Board regularly meet to discuss matter such as School Finances, School Registration compliance, and student and staff health and well-being.
